Moving to a new home is a significant life event that requires careful planning and preparation. One of the key aspects of your move is choosing and booking a removal company. But when is the right time to do this?
Here’s a guide to help you determine the best time to contact removals companies to get a quote.
We always recommend that you contact a few removals companies as early as possible. Moving home is stressful enough and having a quote and knowing which company you want to work with, takes a lot of stress away.
When selling your home and purchasing a new home, don’t wait until dates start being talked about to get in touch, that is too late. Get in touch well before you have a date.
When you contact a company, they will take some basic information and will then book you in for a full survey. After this survey, you will get a final quote, this outlines the cost of your move based on everything seen at survey.
Unless you are already sure which company you want to work with, most people get a number of quotes to then compare these quotes. The earlier you have a surveys, the more time you have to compare the quotes, ask questions and ultimately choose which company you want to work with.
In the industry, there are many companies that will not offer a survey unless you have a move date already. Whilst this is understandable, at Move On we will always do a survey as soon as possible and send you your final quote whether you have a move date or not. We can then stay in touch as your move progresses, until you are ready to get booked in. Having the final quote in your hand and knowing how much it will cost, for budgeting purposes, takes a big load of uncertainty and stress away in the run up to your move.
Booking your move date, especially if you are in a sale chain, can be very stressful. If you have already had a survey and have your final quote in hand, it makes it a lot easier when booking your move, as the company will already know how many vans and team members you will need. Contacting companies at the last minute, once you have your date, greatly increases the stress levels and may ultimately leave you without a company, as many companies will give priority to moves they have already quoted.
In summary, get in touch as soon as possible, even if it is to ask questions and find out about the process. Get a survey booked in and get your final quote. Some companies may not offer a survey until you have your date, but not everyone will do this and the more prepared you are the less stressful booking your move will be.
